About this plugin
The SSL 4K Bundle consolidates three decades of console design into a single, cohesive mixing toolkit. These aren't generic EQ and compression emulations; they're circuit-accurate models of discrete mixing desks that defined professional recording from the mid-1970s onward.
The 4K B, drawn from the legendary SL 4000 B installed at London's Townhouse Studios, carries the sonic DNA of records like Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight" and Peter Gabriel's work. Its appeal lies in authentic non-linear analogue character - the kind that comes from component-level modelling of Jensen transformers, dbx VCA faders, and a uniquely voiced bus compressor derivative. The EQ favors musicality over surgical precision, making it particularly effective on drums, vocals, and bass sources where you need presence without clinical accuracy.

The 4K E and 4K G expand the palette with later refinements and differing sonic approaches, allowing engineers to match the console character to specific mixing contexts. Integration with SSL's 360° ecosystem and hardware control via UC1 and UF8 surfaces maintains the tactile workflow that made these consoles legendary.
This bundle addresses a specific need: engineers accustomed to working on SSL consoles, or those chasing the particular harmonic colouration these desks imparted. The 4K models aren't transparent mixing tools. They are deliberately colored, deliberately "in the signal chain" in ways that either enhance or compromise depending on your mixing philosophy. For those committed to that particular sonic language, the bundle justifies its cost through workflow efficiency and sonic consistency across three complementary tools.
