About this plugin
For engineers invested in Softube's Tube-Tech ecosystem, this upgrade delivers genuine incremental value through the addition of the SMC 2B Multiband Compressor and refinements to the CL 1B Mk II. The SMC 2B represents a faithful emulation of Tube-Tech's three-band optical compressor, offering frequency-conscious dynamic control without the computational overhead of modern multiband designs. Its strength lies in musical compression that respects source material rather than reshaping it aggressively.
The updated CL 1B Mk II remains the collection's workhorse, a single-channel optical compressor with the fast attack characteristics that define this topology. Its sonic signature - present throughout countless landmark recordings - translates effectively to plugin form, delivering thickness and glue that digital algorithms rarely achieve convincingly. The Classic Channel Mk II extends this philosophy into a compact channel strip, layering gentle saturation with EQ and compression in a single interface.

The passive PE 1C and ME 1B Pultec-style equalizers round out the toolkit with shelving curves suited to mix bus or individual track refinement. These aren't surgical tools; they're designed for the gentle contour that defines analog mixing sensibilities.
This upgrade is essential only for those genuinely integrating multiband compression into their workflow. For most Equalizers Mk II owners, the sonic gains justify the modest cost, particularly if the CL 1B or Classic Channel receive regular use. The collection's consistent design language and genuine sonic coherence make it a defensible purchase for studios prioritizing tonal character over transparent processing.
