About this plugin
Roland's SRX Electric Piano plugin resurrects one of the most storied sound libraries in professional music production history. Drawing from the final SRX wave expansion board released during the hardware era, this software instrument captures extensively sampled electric pianos and clavinets with meticulous fidelity. Multiple source instruments were recorded across different velocity layers and, critically, with variable pickup settings on the clavinet samples, preserving the tonal nuances that made these boards indispensable to top-tier composers and producers for over two decades.
The technical foundation relies on Roland's Digital Circuit Behavior technology, which layers detailed sample ROM content with behavioral modeling that simulates the original hardware's digital architecture. This hybrid approach yields authentic character without mere emulation. The sonic palette centers on warm, responsive electric piano tones alongside characterful clavinet textures that exhibit genuine harmonic complexity and velocity sensitivity. These aren't processed approximations but rather rebuilt interpretations of sounds that defined countless hit records and film scores.

The plugin suits producers and keyboardists working across contemporary and retro-influenced projects. Those familiar with Roland's hardware lineage - the JV-1080, XP-80, XV-5080 - will recognize the sonic DNA immediately. The interface presents editing controls without overwhelming the user, allowing straightforward customization while preserving the core sample integrity that makes these sounds valuable.
In an era of infinite plugin choices, SRX Electric Piano stands apart by offering genuine provenance and proven sonic utility grounded in decades of professional use. It remains a pragmatic choice for serious production work.
