About this plugin
Relab Development's Q82 2.0 is a meticulously engineered plugin recreation of the EMT 250 / 251, the legendary plate reverb that defined the spatial character of countless hit records throughout the 1980s and beyond. Rather than applying generic convolution or algorithmic approximation, Relab employed machine learning to capture the EMT's complete sonic fingerprint, including its characteristic resonant peaks and subtle nonlinearities that contribute to its unmistakable presence.
The dual-engine architecture sets this plugin apart from conventional reverb tools. This design allows simultaneous manipulation of reverb width and front-to-back depth in real time, granting producers the ability to shape spatial dimensions with surgical precision. The implementation proves particularly effective when crafting dense arrangements where traditional plate reverbs can obscure definition; users can compress the stereo image or push reflections further back in the mix without resorting to parallel processing chains.

Sonically, the Q82 maintains the EMT's signature warmth and extended decay characteristics while adding modern conveniences like 8-voice hand-tuned modulation, first reflection channel swapping, and expanded bandwidth control. These features enable the creation of complex, textured spaces that avoid the sterility common to purely algorithmic designs.
The plugin serves mixing engineers, mastering professionals, and producers seeking authentic vintage plate character without the considerable expense and studio space demands of original hardware. Among current EMT emulations, the Q82 2.0 represents the most technically sophisticated approach, justifying consideration for any facility prioritizing accuracy and sonic authenticity.
