About this plugin
PSP StereoController2 is a comprehensive stereo imaging and correction plugin that addresses a fundamental problem in mixing and mastering: the inability to surgically adjust dual-channel recordings after the fact. Where most stereo tools offer broad width controls, StereoController2 provides targeted interventions across the frequency spectrum and phase domain.
The plugin excels at remedying common recording issues. Up to 2ms of delay compensation corrects time-alignment problems between microphones, while independent polarity switches and channel swap functionality handle phase coherence issues that plague dual-mic techniques. Its correlation meter and balance display give real-time feedback on stereo field health, essential information for critical listening work.

Where StereoController2 distinguishes itself is in its frequency-selective approach. Separate gain and width controls for low and high bands mean you can tighten bass frequencies to mono for subwoofer optimization while independently widening high-frequency content for perceived spaciousness. The center content localization control is particularly useful, allowing you to reposition a lead vocal or instrument without affecting the stereo field's integrity.
The M-S decoder and mid/side solo monitoring transform the plugin into a diagnostic tool, revealing exactly what lives in the center versus the sides of any stereo recording. For mastering engineers, this transparency is invaluable. The ability to expand stereo width up to 400 percent rescues narrow, claustrophobic recordings, while the master gain with precise metering ensures no level surprises on mixdown.
StereoController2 occupies a specialized but essential category: it's simultaneously a rescue tool for problematic recordings and a creative instrument for intentional stereo manipulation. Its precision and frequency-aware design make it indispensable for mastering work and professional mixing environments.
