About this plugin
The Unfiltered Audio G8 positions itself as a sophisticated alternative to conventional noise gates, and it largely delivers on that promise. At its core, the plugin handles standard gating duties with competence - noise rejection and transient shaping - but its architecture extends considerably further into creative territory. The MIDI bidirectionality and alternative gating modes substantially broaden its practical applications in modern production.
The plugin's Cycle and One-Shot modes merit particular attention. Cycle mode transforms G8 into an effective stutter and AM synthesis tool, useful for everything from trance-style gating rhythms to granular textures. One-Shot mode provides surgical control over transient manipulation, extracting or reshaping attack characteristics across diverse source material. The four-channel sidechain architecture with independent filtering and gain control on each channel enables nuanced parallel processing strategies that justify the interface complexity.

MIDI integration functions bidirectionally, allowing both external triggering of the gate's envelope and extraction of audio-derived groove data to drive external instruments. This flexibility appeals to producers working with hybrid setups or seeking to repurpose rhythmic elements across multiple layers.
The Output Reject feature - routing gated and ungated material to separate channels - provides real utility for parallel compression and transient-focused mixing workflows. Recent updates addressing AU external sidechain support and automation improvements have strengthened compatibility across DAW ecosystems.
G8 occupies a niche between conventional gates and creative effect processors. Engineers comfortable with sidechain routing and envelope manipulation will find genuine value in its modulation capabilities, though less experienced users may find the feature set demands some investment in understanding its architecture.
