About this plugin
The Mäag Audio EQ4 MS represents a refinement of Brainworx's digital interpretation of Cliff Mäag's filter designs, offering mastering-grade equalization with genuine mid-side processing capabilities. Built on the foundation of the EQ4M hardware unit, this plugin combines six bands of precise tonal shaping with the signature AIR BAND sweepable presence peak that has become a studio standard across high-level mixing and mastering work.
The core strength lies in its transparency and ability to enhance high-frequency presence without introducing harshness - a characteristic that distinguishes it from more aggressive presence peaks. The AIR BAND operates across six selectable frequencies, providing the flexibility to tailor air-band character to different source material and mixing contexts. The lower bands offer switchable center frequencies and bell characteristics, accommodating both broad tonal adjustments and surgical problem-solving.

Mid-side processing elevates the plugin's utility significantly. Engineers can shape the mid and side channels independently, allowing for precise stereo image control and sideband augmentation - particularly valuable for widening mix elements or controlling low-midrange width. The inclusion of cut filters, a soft limiter, and Brainworx's Tolerance Modeling Technology further expands its operational scope without introducing unnecessary complexity.
The EQ4 MS occupies the premium tier alongside tools like the Neve 1073, Sontec, and Pultec emulations. It's best suited for mastering applications, critical mixing scenarios, and sources demanding transparent enhancement rather than character impartation. Professional engineers working across genres consistently report confidence in its sonic judgment and reliable results across diverse material.
