About this plugin
The EQ4 represents a deliberate departure from surgical equalization, instead offering a musical approach that enhances rather than corrects. Built around the legendary AIR BAND - a presence peak that interacts with five fixed-frequency band-pass filters - the plugin delivers transparent top-end presence without the phase distortion typical of traditional parametric designs. This coherence stems from its fixed-frequency architecture, which sacrifices flexibility for sonic purity and phase stability across the spectrum.
The AIR BAND operates as the EQ4's signature character, adding shimmer and definition that works equally well on vocals, drums, and mix buses. Below this, the SUB BAND extends down to 10Hz, allowing precise control over low-frequency rumble and body that's particularly useful on bass instruments and master bus chains. Five band-pass sections at selectable frequencies - 2.5kHz, 5kHz, 10kHz, 20kHz, and 40kHz - provide the primary shaping tools, each offering high shelving boost with minimal phase shift.

The plugin version enhances the hardware original with a LEVEL TRIM control for gain staging and detent controls enabling quick recalls and individual band bypassing. This makes A/B testing and surgical adjustments practical within complex sessions.
The EQ4 commands loyalty from top-tier engineers and artists precisely because it flatters rather than analyzes. While less flexible than parametric alternatives, its sonic signature and phase coherence make it indispensable on demanding sources where transparency matters. For producers working with vocals, drums, or master bus chains, the EQ4 remains a definitive tool in its category.
