Product Overview
The 354E is a multiband compressor plugin modeled after the Neve 2254E, delivering the vintage British console's character in a flexible three-band format. Lindell Audio's implementation preserves the source unit's dual-mode compression architecture, allowing users to toggle between aggressive and transparent processing depending on mix requirements.
The plugin divides the frequency spectrum into low, mid, and high bands, each with independent ratio and gain controls. This separation proves particularly effective for controlling problematic elements without affecting the entire mix - shielding bass frequencies from compression while tightening midrange transients, for instance. The attack time reaches 2 microseconds, enabling precise control over fast transients on drums and percussion.
Two operational modes define the 354E's versatility. Engaged mode produces the characteristic pumping, colorful compression associated with the original 2254E, suitable for adding character to drums, guitars, and vocals. Disengaged mode softens the compressor's behavior into a more transparent tool appropriate for bus compression and mastering applications. Mid-side processing enables independent compression of centered and panned elements, preserving kick and vocals while controlling hard-panned instruments.
The Niveau filter adds punch to thin low-end material, while the high-pass sidechain filter prevents low frequencies from triggering compression excessively. A/B comparison functionality allows confident decision-making during final mix stages.
The 354E serves experienced engineers seeking both surgical precision and vintage character in a single plugin. Its dual-mode design and multiband architecture make it equally viable for tracking, mixing, and mastering work.
