About this plugin
The Brainworx modeling of elysia's museq delivers one of the most musically cohesive equalizers in plugin form. Built on discrete Class-A circuit emulation, it captures the sonic character of the original hardware while adding practical features that justify the plugin iteration. The five-band topology - three parametric mids flanked by high and low shelves - provides sufficient range for broad tonal shaping without overwhelming complexity.
What distinguishes museq is its dual-mode approach. The transparent mode operates as a clean, neutral EQ suitable for transparent corrective work. Engaging Warm mode introduces a slew rate limiter that adds harmonic complexity and subtle saturation, functionally creating two instruments in one. The parametric bands toggle between wide and narrow bandwidth, and crucially, the resonant high and low pass filters incorporate a carefully tuned peak that avoids the over-damped character common in digital approximations of classic inductor designs.

The plugin's M/S matrix and per-band bypass functionality exceed the original hardware's capabilities, offering mixing applications beyond source EQing. The Mix version provides a simplified mono interface for summing work or fast decision-making. Stepped potentiometers ensure repeatable precision across sessions.
Museq suits engineers seeking an EQ that remains transparent and controllable even under aggressive gain changes - a genuine rarity. It excels on vocals, drums, and master bus duties. While premium-priced, it represents a genuine advance in EQ emulation technology, avoiding the clinical artifact that compromises many digital parametric designs. For mix engineers prioritizing sonic integrity without coloration, this remains a reference tool.
