About this plugin
The AMEK EQ 200 is a parametric equalizer plugin modeled after the mastering-grade hardware units that defined professional audio from the 1970s onward. Specifically informed by the GML 8200 and vintage SONTEC designs, this Brainworx modeling engine captures the sonic signature of equalizers that remain active standards in elite mixing and mastering facilities despite their four-decade tenure.
What separates these early parametric EQs from their predecessors was fundamental - the ability to independently adjust center frequency and bandwidth on each band represented a genuine paradigm shift in mixing precision. The AMEK EQ 200 recreates that surgical control while maintaining the extraordinary headroom and transparency these units are prized for. The plugin operates with the resolution and neutrality expected of mastering-grade equipment, making it equally effective for transparent corrective work or subtle tonal shaping.

The sonic character leans toward cleanliness and accuracy rather than coloration. This is an EQ that reveals rather than imparts character, which makes it particularly valuable when working with already-mixed material or when pristine frequency management is paramount. The modeling approach respects the electrical behavior of the original analog designs, capturing harmonic subtleties that emerge during gain adjustments rather than simple linear filtering.
The AMEK EQ 200 appeals primarily to mastering engineers, mixing professionals working on critical projects, and producers seeking transparent corrective capabilities. It's equally at home on individual tracks and full mixes, though its price point and design philosophy position it as a reference tool for serious professional work rather than a general utility EQ.
