OBRA is a distortion and dynamics processor that consolidates several essential mixing tools into a single, cohesive plugin. At its core are dual distortion engines: a Tube stage for smooth, musically-voiced saturation that emphasizes odd-order harmonics, and a Mech stage for aggressive grit and punch. Both can be blended and shaped through a multimode filter offering low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass configurations with selectable slopes up to 36 dB/octave, complete with resonance control and MIDI-syncable cutoff frequency.

The plugin's real distinction lies in its three-band dynamics section, which separates compression into two complementary approaches. The COMP mode delivers downward compression across low, mid, and high frequencies, tightening transients and controlling peaks in a conventional manner. PHAT provides upward compression, a technique for lifting quiet material and adding perceived weight without excessive gain reduction. This dual-compression architecture addresses a common workflow problem: aggressive compression often sacrifices detail, while gentle compression leaves uncontrolled dynamics.

OBRA's parallel dry/wet mixing ensures that processing remains transparent or aggressive by design rather than accident. The interface scales freely to accommodate different screen sizes and window arrangements, eliminating the ergonomic friction many producers face with fixed-size plugins.

The plugin targets experienced producers and engineers seeking precise tone-shaping capabilities without menu diving. Thirteen factory presets provide useful starting points, but the true value emerges when treating individual tracks or buses where subtle enhancement and surgical dynamics control matter equally.
