About this plugin
NUGEN Audio's Halo Suite represents a mature approach to stereo-to-immersive upmixing, addressing a workflow challenge that has become central to modern audio production. The plugin's core strength lies in its spatial analysis engine, which identifies locational cues within stereo material rather than relying on artificial reverb, delay, or chorusing to create surround content. This preserves the sonic integrity of the original source while generating coherent spatial information suitable for Dolby Atmos and 7.1 workflows.
The suite comprises four interconnected tools. Halo Upmix handles the primary spatial expansion with granular control over surround balances and a dedicated advanced panel for centre channel management, including neural network based dialogue extraction. This proves invaluable when working without original stems. Halo Vision provides real-time spatial visualization with colour-coded speaker mapping, essential for assessing mix decisions critically. The downmix modes, particularly the 'exact' function, ensure translation integrity across delivery formats - crucial for television re-purposing and archive restoration where maintaining relationships between original, upmixed, and downmixed versions matters significantly.

The plugin suits post-production professionals, archivists, and music engineers tasked with repurposing catalogue material for immersive platforms. Broadcast facilities benefit from its downmix performance, while smaller productions gain access to techniques previously requiring specialized studios and stem separation.
Among comparable tools, Halo occupies practical middle ground between automated upmixing and labour-intensive manual stem work, offering control without requiring extensive material deconstruction.
