About this plugin
NUGEN Audio's 3D Immersive Extension expands the Halo Downmix plugin to handle object-based and channel-based Atmos workflows, specifically addressing the practical challenge of converting 7.1.2 bed mixes to traditional surround formats. This extension leverages the core Halo engine's psychoacoustic downmixing approach, which prioritizes perceptual loudness balance during format conversion rather than simple summation techniques that often collapse spatial information into a muddy center image.
The extension handles the height channels with particular sophistication, employing spectral analysis to redistribute vertical spatial information across the surround field in ways that maintain directional cues. The result preserves mixing intent across delivery formats without the listener perceiving obvious artifacts or tonal shifts when switching between 7.1.2 and lower-order configurations.

This tool is essential for mastering engineers and mixing studios working in broadcast, streaming, and film contexts where Atmos delivery requires near-simultaneous legacy format versions. Rather than requiring separate mixing passes or manual intervention, the plugin streamlines multichannel production pipelines by handling conversions with technical rigor.
Compared to basic upmixers or channel-routing workarounds, the 3D Immersive Extension distinguishes itself through NUGEN's established downmixing algorithms and transparent processing character. For professionals managing complex multichannel sessions, it eliminates the trial-and-error phase typically associated with format conversions, making it a pragmatic addition to high-end production toolkits.
