About this plugin
Soul Sessions MPC Edition distills five decades of soul music production into a cohesive toolkit designed specifically for Akai MPC workflows. Native Instruments' approach here centers on hybrid sound design, combining period-specific elements - 60s horn textures, 70s bass articulation, organ warmth, and 80s-90s synth character - into instruments that feel contextually grounded yet flexible enough for contemporary production.
The plugin's technical foundation leverages NI's Play Series architecture, stripped down and optimized for MPC hardware integration. This means streamlined control surfaces that map intuitively to pad-based workflows rather than desktop interfaces. The preset selection emphasizes practical utility: these aren't abstract sound-design exercises but rather production-ready textures that respond naturally to velocity and modulation.

Sonically, Soul Sessions prioritizes cohesion over novelty. The signal chain consistently favors warmth and saturation - particularly evident in the bass and keyboard sections - which explains its effectiveness at softening abrasive electronic material without sacrificing clarity. This tonal philosophy makes it especially useful for producers working across R&B, contemporary jazz, and neo-soul contexts, though the tools prove equally valuable for adding organic depth to left-field electronic work.
Compared to broader sample-based soul libraries, this plugin trades breadth for specificity and integration. It's best suited for producers already invested in MPC ecosystem workflows who need characterful instruments that prioritize playability over exhaustive sound selection. The result is practical, sonically coherent, and intentionally designed around how modern MPC users actually work.
