About this plugin
Roux is a New Orleans bounce instrument that captures the kinetic energy of NOLA's bass-heavy production aesthetic through a combination of sampled live instrumentation and synthesized elements. Developed in collaboration with Divided Souls Entertainment at the legendary Esplanade Studios, the plugin distills decades of bounce culture into an accessible, preset-driven interface designed for rapid sonic exploration.
The instrument's sound palette draws from vibrant upright bass recordings, energetic synth layers, and authentic brass sections - all blended to evoke the city's musical lineage while maintaining contemporary production appeal. Rather than functioning as a traditional sample library, Roux operates as a playable instrument with macro controls that allow meaningful real-time manipulation of its character, making it suitable for both melodic phrases and rhythmic loops.

As part of Native Instruments' Play Series, Roux prioritizes usability without sacrificing depth. The 150 presets span functional categories and stylistic variations, offering experienced producers immediate starting points while remaining malleable through focused parameter adjustment. This approach works well for producers seeking authentic bounce textures without the workflow friction of deep synthesis or complex sample management.
The plugin occupies a niche between specialized percussion instruments and full synthesizers, best suited for hip-hop, electronic, and experimental producers wanting to incorporate New Orleans influence into their work. Its collaboration with a regional entertainment company ensures cultural authenticity rather than superficial sonic tourism. Among comparable bounce-focused tools, Roux's emphasis on live recording blended with synthesis provides tonal complexity that single-source sample packs typically lack, making it a legitimate creative tool rather than mere novelty software.
