About this plugin
Moog's Mariana represents a methodical refinement of the company's bass synthesis philosophy, translating decades of hardware expertise into a dual-layer software instrument designed for contemporary production workflows. The architecture centers on two independent synthesis engines that can operate in unison or duophonic configurations, each built around dual oscillators paired with dedicated Moog ladder filters and supplementary sub-oscillators for extended low-frequency content.
The synthesis engine prioritizes sonic weight without sacrificing tonal definition. Stereo oscillator configurations allow for width in the high midrange while dedicated crossover filtering maintains a coherent mono foundation - a practical consideration for bass-heavy music where phase coherence matters. The inclusion of a tertiary filter dedicated to sub-oscillator processing enables precise low-end sculpting independent of midrange character.

Signal processing includes saturation modules modeling tube, tape, and overdrive characteristics alongside integrated compression, delay, and chorus. The real-time metering section proves genuinely useful for matching output levels across presets and monitoring harmonic content. These utilities feel integrated rather than bolted-on, functioning as part of a cohesive signal chain rather than afterthoughts.
Mariana suits producers working in electronic music, hip-hop, and bass-centric genres who value precise low-end control and workflow efficiency. The preset library of 200 patches provides legitimate starting points covering common production scenarios. The interface prioritizes usability without sacrificing parameter access, though experienced sound designers may find some deep modulation routing constraints compared to modular-inspired competitors.
