About this plugin
McDSP's EC-300 represents one of the more thoughtfully architected delay plugins available, consolidating three distinct delay emulations into a single, deeply configurable interface. The three delay types - Magnetic, Digital, and Analog - each model a different sonic lineage: tape-based echo units with their characteristic wow and flutter, clinical digital delays from the 1980s, and the warm saturation of vintage analog circuitry. Rather than treating these as mere cosmetic variations, McDSP has equipped each with its own control topology and character modes, lending genuine sonic distinction between them.
The v7 upgrade brings optimization for Apple Silicon processors alongside the latest Intel architectures, addressing a practical need for contemporary DAW users. Two activations per license provides reasonable flexibility for those working across multiple machines. The underlying zero-latency algorithms remain a significant advantage for real-time recording, while double-precision processing ensures minimal numerical degradation even with extended feedback chains.

The EC-300 appeals most to mixing engineers and producers who value surgical control alongside genuine character. The in-loop filtering, adjustable saturation, output ducking, and dual / ping-pong operation modes give you the tools to shape delays that sit precisely in your mix rather than simply coating it. With over 75 included impulse models and tap tempo synchronization, the plugin scales from straightforward slapback treatments to complex, textured soundscapes.
Among delay-focused plugins, the EC-300 occupies a pragmatic middle ground: less specialized than single-purpose tape emulations but more focused than multi-effects platforms.
