About this plugin
McDSP's DE555 represents a significant evolution in de-essing technology, addressing the persistent challenge of controlling sibilance without degrading vocal intelligibility or introducing audible artifacts. Unlike traditional threshold-based de-essers that require manual gain reduction settings, the DE555 employs intelligent signal analysis to adapt automatically across dynamic vocal performances, maintaining consistent sibilant control regardless of input level.
The plugin's architecture centers on a sophisticated key filter system with adjustable focus control, allowing engineers to isolate the specific frequency characteristics of sibilance while preserving the tonal integrity of dialogue. The high frequency only mode operates independently from the main de-esser circuit, enabling precision reduction of sibilant energy without affecting the fundamental vocal character. This dual-path approach proves particularly valuable in dialogue-heavy applications where transparency remains paramount.

Continuously variable ratio and release parameters provide fine-grained control over de-essing character, from transparent surgical reduction to more aggressive processing. Real-time visualization of both de-essing amount and key filter response facilitates rapid workflow and informed decision-making without reliance on subjective ear fatigue testing.
The HD version optimizes for AAX DSP systems with native Apple Silicon and modern Intel processor support. Zero-latency algorithms ensure the plugin integrates seamlessly into tracking workflows, while double-precision internal processing maintains signal integrity across extended mixing sessions.
The DE555 occupies a premium position within the de-esser category, suited for post-production facilities, mastering engineers, and production teams prioritizing transparent sibilant control across diverse vocal sources and microphone types.
