About this plugin
The AE600 represents McDSP's most sophisticated approach to combining fixed and dynamic equalization in a single processor. Where conventional active EQs force compromises between static tone shaping and dynamic response, the AE600 decouples these functions entirely, allowing independent control of six overlapping bands in both fixed and active modes simultaneously.
The plugin's architecture addresses a genuine workflow problem: traditional parametric EQs lack responsiveness to dynamic content, while sidechain-dependent dynamic EQs often struggle with transparent, musical tone shaping. The AE600 solves this by letting each band operate in isolation, choosing its own EQ topology (parametric, proportional Q, Baxandall shelving, vintage character, or filtering) and its own control source. The inclusion of a ratio parameter across active bands distinguishes this tool meaningfully from competitors, providing intuitive control over how aggressively the dynamic response engages as signal levels change.

The zero-latency processing engine and high-resolution interface support real-time analysis of both input and band-specific key signals, critical for surgical work without temporal artifacts. Native support for Apple Silicon and latest Intel optimization ensures the plugin integrates seamlessly into modern DAWs.
This tool is essential for mastering engineers and mix specialists working on sources that demand both consistent tonal character and dynamic adaptation - acoustic instruments, vocals, bass, and drum buses particularly benefit. Studio professionals who've outgrown simpler dynamic EQs or found static parametrics insufficient will recognize the AE600's value immediately. For v6 owners, the updated interface and processor optimization alone justify the upgrade path.
