About this plugin
McDSP's AE600 represents a genuinely distinct approach to dynamic equalization, combining fixed and active EQ processing within a single plugin while maintaining zero latency operation. The architecture allows six fully overlapping bands, each capable of operating as either a static equalizer or a dynamics-responsive processor, with independent controls for gain, frequency, Q, and mode selection across all instances.
The plugin's technical sophistication lies in its ratio control - a parameter unique to McDSP's active EQ lineage that determines input signal sensitivity and articulates how aggressively the active bands respond. This, combined with per-band threshold, attack, and release settings, provides precise control over dynamic EQ behavior without the compromise typical of simpler sidechain implementations. The eight selectable EQ modes span from parametric and proportional Q variants to vintage-styled and Baxandall shelving options, accommodating both transparent surgical work and character-driven processing.

The Native v7 build includes optimizations for Apple Silicon and current Intel architecture, alongside real-time analyzers and sidechain flexibility for both mono and stereo configurations. The dual-license activation model supports production workflows spanning multiple machines.
The AE600 suits mastering engineers and mix professionals requiring sophisticated dynamic correction - particularly those addressing problematic resonances that shift with source material or performance dynamics. Its combination of zero latency processing, extensive mode selection, and genuine active EQ functionality positions it among the more capable tools in this category, though the interface demands engagement rather than offering instant gratification. For those comfortable with parameter depth, it's a genuinely capable solution.
