About this plugin
Materia is an additive resynthesizer that deconstructs audio into individual harmonic partials, then lets you rebuild it from the ground up. Load any sample and the plugin performs spectral analysis, extracting frequency, amplitude, phase, and envelope data for each harmonic component. From there, the workflow branches into two distinct territories: preservation or transformation. You can maintain the character of the original sound while refining its tonal balance, or dismantle it entirely and sculpt something altogether different.
The partial editor is the core interface. Each of the analyzed harmonics can be individually adjusted for frequency ratio, amplitude, and phase, while a 128-point envelope with sustain loop controls governs how each partial evolves over time. The Advanced Analysis option assigns independent envelopes to every partial, offering granular control that justifies the added complexity. Adding empty partials lets you draw in new harmonic content by hand, effectively composing hybrid timbres that blend analyzed and synthetic material.

Beyond the spectrum, Materia includes a capable filter section with low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, notch, and formant modes, plus four effects: an algorithmic resonator modeling physical materials like wood and metal, a tap delay, multi-stage phaser, and waveshaper. These aren't afterthoughts - they integrate meaningfully into the resynthesis pipeline, allowing further tonal sculpting after harmonic reconstruction.
Materia suits sound designers who want surgical control over spectral content, producers building hybrid instruments from field recordings or vocal samples, and engineers seeking an alternative to granular or wavetable synthesis. The analyzed model persists in presets independent of the original sample file, making it practical for working across sessions and projects.
