About this plugin
The Pentodian Resonator Choir represents a meticulous documentation of vintage analog synthesis techniques, capturing the harmonic character of 1930s formant resonator design through the lens of discrete component processing. This effects plugin synthesizes twelve distinct vocal textures derived from 215 hand-crafted formants, each generated through a deliberate chain of analog circuits: pulse generators modulated by analog LFO, passive wave shaping networks, and the critical formant filtering section based on the 1938 Novachord architecture.
What distinguishes this collection sonically is the impedance buffering stage sourced from a 1968 Tektronix 545B tube oscilloscope's vertical signal path, followed by tube overdrive and EQ processing. This unconventional signal routing introduces harmonic distortion and frequency shaping that conveys the subtle nonlinearities characteristic of mid-century tube electronics rather than modeling them mathematically. Over 100 samples were individually captured and processed through an analog chorus unit, resulting in textures with organic warmth and dimensional character that resist clinical description.

The plugin functions within Loot Audio's established four-voice layering engine, allowing polyphonic orchestration of these choir sources. Suited primarily for composers and sound designers working in experimental, ambient, and contemporary classical domains, The Pentodian Resonator Choir excels where timbral depth and vintage sonic authenticity matter more than conventional vocal emulation. Engineers seeking character-laden textures for textural beds, pad synthesis, or unconventional vocal processing will find the palette considerably more compelling than modern digital alternatives.
