About this plugin
Loot Audio's Bandoneon is a meticulously sampled virtual instrument capturing a Premier-grade bandoneón recorded by composer Guillermo Guareschi in Buenos Aires. The instrument exhibits the characteristic sweet, expressive timbre essential to authentic tango orchestration, distinguished by its harmonic complexity and responsive dynamics.
The sampling methodology reflects serious microphone technique: dual-channel capture of the left hand (bass register) via Neumann and ribbon microphones addresses the low-frequency definition critical to the instrument's sonic foundation. The right hand utilizes a modified SE A5600 II tube microphone, while ambient pickup through an AKG microphone preserves the recording venue's natural acoustic character. All signal paths route through vintage Telefunken preamps without console coloration, maintaining tonal purity. Three velocity layers across nine articulations, recorded at 24-bit/48kHz, provide expressive range without excessive sample burden.

The interface design prioritizes practical control: independent round-robin management for air sound (3x) and key click (7x) allows detailed tonal shaping. Fine-tuning extends to +/- 100 cents for intonation adjustment, while five convolution reverb profiles with continuously variable wet/dry mixing accommodate diverse spatial contexts. Articulation toggles and dynamic stereo spread adjustment offer real-time expression.
This instrument serves composers, arrangers, and producers requiring authentic bandoneón sonics beyond sample playback. Unlike generic orchestral libraries, it captures the instrument's distinctive character with technical rigor. For tango scoring, contemporary classical composition, or world music contexts demanding acoustic credibility, The Bandoneon represents a specialized tool with genuine sonic authority.
