Siege Drum is a comprehensive medieval percussion instrument library built on multisampled recordings of a 13x13 Davul drum. The library captures performances across two distinct acoustic environments: a dry studio setting and a reverberant 19th century hall constructed in 1896. This dual-venue approach yields a versatile sound palette ranging from tight, controlled attacks to naturally resonant, spacious tones.
The technical foundation consists of four round-robin variations per hit across up to five velocity layers, recorded using multiple striking implements including hands, leather mallet, rattan, and traditional sticks. This sampling methodology provides authentic tonal variation and reduces repetition artifacts that plague single-hit libraries. Fourteen patches extract different characteristics from the source material, functioning variously as low-end foundational elements, tom substitutes, open snare textures, or frame drum approximations.
The interface delivers practical control over the samples through pitch adjustment, attack and release shaping, and a 13-impulse response convolution system for spatial customization. An arpeggiator, EQ controls, and dry/wet balance round out the feature set. Rolls and effects samples expand compositional possibilities beyond one-shot hits.
Siege Drum targets film and game composers requiring period-appropriate or fantastical percussion with cinematic weight. The combination of detailed multisampling, dual recording venues, and intuitive editing tools positions it as a solid alternative to general percussion libraries, particularly for projects demanding both authentic medieval character and modern production clarity. Requires full Kontakt version 5.8 or later.
