About this plugin
Loot Audio's Maple Mandolin samples a finger-played mandolin recorded without amplification or pick attack, capturing the instrument's natural warmth and delicate sustain. The library prioritizes the nuanced tonal character that emerges from direct finger contact with strings, resulting in a sound substantially softer and more organically textured than pick-driven mandolin libraries.
The plugin centers on a restroke function designed to streamline rhythmic performance. Rather than programming individual note attacks, users can toggle between downstrokes and upstrokes with intuitive controls, allowing for natural-sounding alternating patterns that would be tedious to assemble through conventional note entry. This approach suits both rhythmic accompaniment passages and melodic lines where stroke direction impacts phrasing.

Real-time keyswitches enable insertion of grace notes and ghoststrokes during playback, addressing a common limitation in sampled mandolin instruments - the difficulty of adding spontaneous ornamentation without offline editing. This capability makes the instrument more responsive to in-the-moment creative decisions typical of live performance.
Sonically, the Maple Mandolin occupies a distinct position within available mandolin tools. Its emphasis on finger-played character appeals to producers seeking gentler, more intimate textures rather than the brighter, percussive quality of pick alternatives. The warm harmonic profile works particularly well in folk, classical, and singer-songwriter contexts where the instrument's naturalistic character enhances authenticity.
For experienced producers comfortable with sample-based instruments and momentary switch workflows, the Maple Mandolin provides genuinely useful tools for efficient rhythmic and ornamental performance. Its focused sonic palette trades versatility for tonal coherence.
