About this plugin
Total Blackout is a creative destruction plugin that applies aggressive frequency suppression and dynamic gating across the full spectrum, designed to carve distinctive voids into otherwise dense mixes. Rather than functioning as a conventional filter or EQ, it operates as a multi-band gate with extended range, capable of completely eliminating defined frequency bands when triggered by envelope-following or sidechain input. This approach yields results that standard subtractive processing cannot achieve - particularly effective for creating aggressive ducking effects, rhythmic frequency erasure, and textural contrast without relying on volume automation.
The plugin's sonic character favors industrial, electronic, and experimental music production, where the aggressive suppression of harmonic content becomes a compositional tool rather than a corrective measure. Loopmasters has implemented the interface with producer workflow in mind, allowing real-time adjustments to suppression intensity and frequency targeting without requiring deep parameter diving. The gating behavior remains musically responsive rather than clinical, maintaining transient integrity while achieving decisive cuts.

Among competing tools like FabFilter Pro-Q's dynamic mode or Xfer Records Serum's filter section, Total Blackout distinguishes itself through dedicated architecture for extreme suppression rather than subtle dynamic shaping. It excels in rhythmic contexts where precision timing of frequency elimination becomes essential. For engineers seeking conventional surgical EQ or transparent dynamic control, this tool serves limited purpose. For producers working in genres that embrace digital artifacting and deliberate sonic destruction, it represents a specialized but genuinely useful addition to the effects palette.
