About this plugin
Softube's plugin recreation of the legendary French hardware unit delivers authentic bit-crushing and lo-fi degradation with surgical precision. The Biscuit excels at what it was designed for: applying controlled digital destruction across the frequency spectrum while maintaining musical coherence, from subtle texture to complete sonic annihilation.
The core engine splits into two distinct sections. The digital domain offers eight independently invertible and mutable bits, adjustable sample rate reduction, and waveshaping - tools that generate everything from warm, vintage 8-bit character to harsh aliasing and digital noise. The analog section employs a genuine modeled filter with self-oscillation capability, either controlled manually or via the built-in step sequencer, which proves essential for taming the sharpest artifacts and restoring organic movement to harsh digital processing.

What distinguishes the Biscuit from generic bit-crushing plugins is its restraint and musicality. Rather than trading solely in extreme degradation, it functions as a versatile processor across sources. Applied subtly to drum loops, it adds nostalgic lo-fi warmth; on synthesizers, it creates convincing arcade textures and modulation effects; on vocals or guitars, it genuinely transforms acoustic sources into electronic otherworldliness.
The plugin includes tempo-synchronized delay with dedicated feedback control and a low-latency mode enabling real-time performance use - a critical feature for DJs and live electronic performers manipulating drops and drums mid-set. Visual feedback of waveform shapes and parameter interaction aids workflow compared to the hardware original.
Positioned as the most accessible entry point to serious bit-reduction processing, the Biscuit remains the standard-bearer in this category for producers seeking grit without sacrificing musicality.
