About this plugin
Nu Wave & Disco is a spectral effects plugin that applies the production aesthetics of 1980s new wave and disco music to contemporary sources. The tool operates through a combination of frequency-dependent processing, harmonic saturation, and modulation that recreates the tonal signatures characteristic of that era's studio techniques and outboard gear limitations.
The plugin's primary strength lies in its ability to impart period-specific coloration without sounding like a simple EQ preset. It achieves this through layered processing that targets midrange presence, introduces controlled harmonic distortion, and applies era-appropriate reverb and delay characteristics. The saturation stage particularly distinguishes itself, adding the slight grittiness and compression artifacts that defined 1980s tape and console recording, while remaining transparent enough for surgical application.

Nu Wave & Disco performs best on vocals, bass, and drums, where the 1980s aesthetic feels most naturally integrated into modern productions. It works equally well as a mix bus processor when restraint is applied. Unlike broader vintage emulation tools, this plugin maintains specificity of character rather than attempting universal period authenticity.
Among comparable Loopmasters effect packs, this sits comfortably between straightforward EQ libraries and more abstract creative tools. It occupies similar territory to iZotope's Vinyl and Soundtoys' Decapitator, though with stronger stylistic focus and less flexibility for extreme settings. For producers actively working with synthwave, retrowave, or anyone pursuing deliberate 1980s sonics rather than accident, this plugin justifies its position in a focused effects chain.
