About this plugin
Loopmasters' collaboration with Shogun Audio delivers a focused toolkit designed specifically for drum and bass production workflows. This effects plugin bundle pairs two complementary processors: Friction, a saturation and harmonic enhancement module, and Icicle, a spectral-focused effects unit optimized for high-frequency texturing and atmospheric processing.
Friction operates as an intelligent saturation engine with multiple distortion models calibrated to the demands of fast breakbeats. Rather than simply crushing transients, it preserves punch while introducing harmonic density that sits well within the compressed frequency landscape typical of the genre. The saturation character leans toward clarity over coloration, making it suitable for processing individual drum elements or submixed breaks without obscuring detail.

Icicle's approach centers on resonant filtering and granular texture manipulation, particularly effective on pads, strings, and atmospheric layers that benefit d and b's signature crystalline sheen. The processor excels at creating the "icicle" effect its name suggests - sharp, shimmering artifacts that cut through dense mixes.
The plugin occupies a specific niche rather than positioning itself as a general-purpose effects suite. For drum and bass producers working within Loopmasters' established ecosystem, this represents a capable, genre-aware addition. However, experienced engineers considering it should recognize its specialization; it functions best as a supplementary tool rather than a primary effects foundation. The sonic architecture demonstrates competent engineering but lacks the innovative approach found in higher-tier spectral processing alternatives. Pricing and feature set align appropriately with its focused application space.
