About this plugin
The KORG Collection M1 V2 is a software synthesis plugin that reconstructs the legendary 1988 M1 workstation with meticulous fidelity. Rather than simple sample playback, KORG analyzed original circuit diagrams and reverse-engineered the hardware's ai (Advanced Integrated) synthesis engine in software, capturing both the signal flow and the subtle nonlinearities that define the hardware's character. The plugin includes all 3,300 original preset programs, sourced directly from the M1's ROM and expansion cards, making it the most comprehensive software recreation of this instrument available.
The M1's sonic signature remains immediately recognizable: warm, slightly compressed PCM-based sounds paired with high-quality digital effects processing. Where the original unit blended sampled waveforms with subtractive synthesis parameters and integrated reverb and delay, the software version maintains this architecture while offering the flexibility unavailable in hardware - programs and combinations operate independently rather than competing for DSP resources.

The M1 V2 suits producers and engineers working in electronic music, synthwave, retrowave, and pop production who value authentic 80s and 90s character. The plugin's high-resolution, scalable interface adapts to modern displays while preserving workflow familiarity for users of the original. This is not a novelty item; the M1 remains sonically relevant precisely because its designers prioritized musical utility over trendy sound design. For practitioners seeking period-accurate synthesis or simply wanting a dependable palette of polished, production-ready tones, the M1 V2 represents exceptional value. Its combination of historical significance and genuine usability keeps it competitive against newer virtual synthesizers that chase rather than define contemporary sound.
