Electric Keys is an FM synthesis based electric piano emulation plugin that captures the distinctive character of 1980s and 1990s keyboard sounds. Rather than sampling, the instrument reconstructs these tones through four FM sound sources derived from the Yamaha DX7 architecture, allowing for deeper sound design manipulation than traditional sample libraries afford.

The plugin's signal chain consists of three simultaneous sound layers, each with independent ADSR envelopes, fine-tuning controls, and octave shifting capabilities. A dedicated tone EQ section provides tonal shaping at the oscillator level. Modulation options include tremolo and wow effects, which add movement and character typical of vintage electric pianos. The streamlined control set proves refreshingly uncluttered, with every parameter assignable to MIDI controllers.

The effects section comprises two processing units: Vapor Dimension MK2 with ten algorithms covering spatial and textural effects, and Ethos, a reverb engine offering twenty algorithms suited to ambient and cinematic applications. Each effect includes independent dry/wet and input/output gain controls, enabling transparent integration or aggressive character coloration.

Karanyi Sounds has equipped the plugin with a smart randomizer function that generates variations across instrument sources, sound controls, and effects separately or simultaneously. The factory preset collection anchors the tool with recognizable starting points, including the characterful Los Angeles Electric Piano sound.
