About this plugin
Stutter Edit 2 is a rhythm-based effects processor developed by iZotope in collaboration with producer BT, designed to create time-synced gestural effects ranging from subtle movement to extreme glitch and stuttering. The plugin automates parameter changes across its 11 effect modules - including distortion, reverb, comb filter, chorus, and limiter - with precise tempo alignment, eliminating the need for manual DAW automation for dynamic effect modulation.
The core workflow centers on a Curve Editor that lets users draw custom automation envelopes or select from preset curves, controlling any parameter's evolution over a defined time range. The AUTO mode provides hands-free preset triggering, while MIDI controller support enables real-time gesture firing without extensive routing setup. This approach appeals to producers seeking rapid iteration and spontaneous sound design without deep plugin diving.

The sonic palette spans lo-fi character effects to aggressive rhythmic breakdowns and filter sweeps. BT's influence appears throughout the preset banks, which emphasize cinematic transitions, club-ready effects, and textural glitches. The reverb module draws from BT's personal collection, suggesting a focus on space and movement rather than transparent processing.
Stutter Edit 2 occupies a specific niche between traditional delay-based stuttering tools and generalized modulation plugins. It's best suited for producers working in electronic music, post-production, and remixing who prioritize rapid experimentation and rhythmic precision. While experienced engineers may find the preset-heavy interface limiting for detailed surgical work, the Curve Editor provides sufficient control for customization. The plugin represents a mature iteration of the original Stutter Edit concept, with meaningful sonic and workflow enhancements that justify consideration for contemporary production setups.
