About this plugin
Motion: Fractal is a granular effects processor that positions itself as a creative tool for sound design rather than a conventional plugin. Built by Excite Audio, it centers on dual granular engines capable of real-time grain manipulation, complemented by a trance gate, stutter-repeat module, and flexible effects routing. The plugin's architecture allows users to rearrange all modules, enabling custom signal flows that can yield dramatically different results from the same input source.
The dual granular engines form the sonic core, offering both tempo-synced and free-running grain operations. This flexibility matters - you can lock grains to your session's tempo for rhythmic coherence or detune them entirely for experimental textures. The trance gate adds gated modulation to any parameter in the chain, while the beat repeater handles glitchy stuttering and looped fragments. What distinguishes Fractal is its hexagon controller, a spatial XY-pad evolution that allows simultaneous morphing between multiple parameters without menu navigation. This design prioritizes tactile workflow and real-time expression.

The plugin suits producers working in electronic, experimental, and contemporary music genres who value hands-on sound design. It's particularly useful for those seeking textural enhancement of static sources or those who need rhythmic transformation tools beyond standard delay and reverb. Compared to rivals like Native Instruments Komplete's granular tools or iZotope's creative effects, Fractal emphasizes routing flexibility and visual feedback through 3D visualization.
This crossgrade option serves existing Motion users, making incremental investment logical for those already familiar with Excite Audio's hexagon-based interface paradigm.
