About this plugin
iZotope's Ozone 12 Standard represents a meaningful evolution in the company's mastering plugin suite, now bolstered by three new processing tools that address common mixing challenges. The update centers on Bass Control, a frequency-focused module designed to establish consistent low-end balance across different monitoring environments. Rather than applying blanket EQ, Bass Control targets the critical interaction between punch and clarity in the 20Hz to 200Hz range, making it particularly useful for ensuring mixes translate reliably on consumer playback systems.
The updated Master Assistant remains the suite's standpoint feature. Built on analysis of thousands of professional tracks, it generates customized starting presets that leverage neural network analysis to match your target aesthetic quickly. This isn't automated mastering in the reductive sense - the tool functions as a genuine time-saving co-pilot that establishes sonic direction while preserving complete creative control.

Standard remains the practical middle ground in iZotope's three-tier Ozone ecosystem. It provides essential mastering tools without the advanced spectral editing capabilities of Advanced, making it well-suited for professional mixing engineers who need reliable processing without workflow complexity. The suite's combination of linear phase EQ, multiband compression, and metering delivers transparent, artifact-free results that hold up across critical listening environments.
For engineers working primarily on mixing and seeking supplementary mastering reference, this update offers demonstrable value. The Bass Control addition specifically addresses a persistent pain point in mix translation. Existing Ozone Standard users will find the upgrade worthwhile if low-end consistency has challenged recent projects.
