About this plugin
Nectar 4 Standard represents iZotope's refined approach to vocal production, consolidating essential mixing and creative tools into a focused plugin suite. The update expands on previous iterations with meaningful additions that address real production workflows rather than theoretical ones.
The core strength lies in its vocal-centric module architecture. The Voices module handles harmonies with genuine musicality, offering 11 auto-harmony presets that respond intelligently to MIDI input for precise note control. This moves beyond simple pitch-shifting into actual harmonic arrangement, which proves valuable for both demos and finished productions. The new Backer module takes a different creative angle, generating artificial background vocalists across eight distinct styles. Rather than slavish doubling or simple layering, these AI-generated parts occupy actual harmonic space, useful for rapidly exploring arrangement ideas without recruiting session singers.

Nectar 4 Standard's integration with Audiolens adds practical reference capability. Tone-matching against external vocal sources provides concrete sonic targets rather than relying on ear training alone. The revamped Vocal Assistant streamlines initial decision-making, reducing analysis paralysis during critical mixing stages.
The plugin suits producers working across pop, R&B, hip-hop, and contemporary genres where vocal layering and arrangement define the mix. It's equally at home in rough demo phases and professional finishing work. While not a replacement for surgical correction tools or premium mixing chains, Nectar 4 Standard handles the intersection between production and mixing that distinguishes intermediate and professional workflows. The update justifies consideration for existing users primarily through the Backer module's creative potential and the Audiolens integration's practical utility.
