About this plugin
iZotope's Nectar 4 Advanced Update delivers a comprehensive vocal production toolkit designed for engineers who demand both speed and sonic precision. This upgrade introduces three foundational systems: the Auto-Level Module (ALM), which functions as an intelligent dynamics processor that maintains consistent vocal levels without the characteristic artifacts of traditional compression; the Voices Module for generating harmonically coherent vocal layers without requiring manual voice-leading knowledge; and the Backer Module for synthesizing convincing background vocal textures.
The technical approach emphasizes transparency and workflow efficiency. ALM's Tame Noise feature specifically distinguishes between sung and unsung content, applying level management only to intentional vocal material while preserving natural breathing and room tone. Integration with iZotope's Audiolens tool enables tone-matching against reference vocals, providing objective starting points for mix decisions.

This update appeals to producers and engineers working across genres who prioritize vocal clarity and consistency over character coloration. The modular architecture allows selective use of individual components within custom signal chains, accommodating both minimalist and comprehensive mixing approaches. Compared to traditional vocal processing stacks, Nectar 4 Advanced reduces decision fatigue through preset-based layering while maintaining sufficient parameter depth for detailed customization.
The plugin occupies a well-established position in professional vocal production, balancing accessibility with technical capability. For those upgrading from earlier Nectar versions, the new ALM and enhanced Voices Module represent meaningful improvements to core workflow, justifying the update cost for active vocal-focused producers.
