About this plugin
IK Multimedia's TONEX MESA/Boogie Reference Collection represents a significant advancement in amp modeling by capturing five era-defining amplifiers at their sonic peak. Rather than reverse-engineering typical production units, IK partnered with MESA/Boogie to model hand-selected reference amps from the company's tone lab - instruments chosen specifically for their exceptional resonance and component quality. The collection includes the legendary Mark IIC+, alongside four additional designs spanning decades of high-gain and clean tonal development.
The technical approach leverages IK's Advanced AI Machine Modeling technology, with each amp captured across multiple operational sweet spots by Doug West, MESA's principal tone engineer for over four decades. This multi-point training strategy captures the nuanced behavior of these amplifiers across their usable range rather than creating a single static snapshot. The 70 resulting tone models include paired cabinet options using MESA's 4x12 Slope and 1x12 Widebody Extension, providing flexibility for both mixing and live applications.

Sonically, the collection excels where high-gain amplifiers historically shine - aggressive rhythm work, sustain-heavy leads, and articulate clean tones that respond authentically to pick dynamics and control positions. The modeling accuracy extends to the amplifiers' interactive characteristics, making these tools genuinely useful for producers seeking authentic MESA character without owning the original hardware.
The collection integrates seamlessly across TONEX's ecosystem, from the free TONEX CS to dedicated hardware, making it accessible for both studio work and touring musicians. For engineers and players already committed to TONEX, this represents the most comprehensive official amp modeling available in the platform.
