About this plugin
IK Multimedia's Linear Phase Equalizer is a precision surgical tool built on one fundamental principle: tonal adjustment without phase distortion. Unlike conventional EQ designs that introduce phase shift when boosting or cutting frequencies, this six-band parametric equalizer maintains phase coherence across the spectrum, resulting in corrections that sound transparent rather than colored or processed.
The technical advantage here is substantial. By preserving phase relationships, the plugin avoids the characteristic "smearing" that traditional EQ can introduce, particularly problematic when making aggressive cuts or when processing full mixes. Each of the six bands operates in multiple filter types - high pass, low shelf, peaking, high shelf, and low pass - providing genuine flexibility for both surgical and broad interventions.

In practice, this means the Linear Phase Equalizer excels equally on problem-solving duties and transparent mastering work. On individual tracks, the adjustable Q width allows both broad corrective sweeps and microsurgical notching to eliminate problematic resonances or isolated noise. When applied to full mixes, the same linearity ensures that wide, gentle band adjustments remain sonically invisible, making it genuinely suited for mastering contexts where natural tonal balance matters.
The plugin occupies a specific niche in professional workflows where conventional EQs fall short - situations demanding audible correction without audible coloration. For engineers working across mixing and mastering, or those frequently addressing poorly recorded sources, this represents a meaningful technical advantage. It's the kind of tool that earns its place through utility rather than character.
