About this plugin
IK Multimedia's EQual stands as a genuinely capable digital parametric equalizer that bridges the gap between clinical precision and musical character. The plugin offers ten bands of fully parametric EQ with a design philosophy centered on transparent processing, which is essential for mastering work where coloration can undermine clarity across frequency ranges.
What distinguishes EQual is its collection of modeled analog EQ curves derived from classic British and American hardware designs. Rather than adopting a single sonic character, the plugin lets you select different filter shapes and response behaviors for individual bands, providing flexibility without forcing a house sound. The visual interface displays your audio's spectrum analysis in real time, making it straightforward to identify problem frequencies and apply surgical corrections.

The mid-side processing capability adds genuine utility for mastering engineers, where decoupling the center and side information proves invaluable for controlling bass prominence or enhancing stereo air without affecting vocal clarity. This functionality elevates EQual beyond basic channel EQ toward a genuinely mastering-grade tool.
The 64-bit native processing ensures technical competence at sample-level accuracy. Integration within IK's T-RackS ecosystem allows either standalone use or chaining within a complete mastering suite, which appeals to engineers already invested in that platform.
For experienced producers and mastering engineers seeking a transparent, multi-character EQ with reliable mid-side capabilities, EQual delivers professional-grade performance without unnecessary complexity. It occupies solid middle ground between ultra-transparent surgical EQs and heavily characterized vintage models, making it genuinely useful for diverse mixing and mastering applications.
