About this plugin
The EQ PB brings the sonic character of classic American console EQ design into the digital domain through a faithful emulation of discrete, custom op-amp circuitry. As a four-band peaking equalizer with switchable shelving on the low and high bands, it addresses the practical workflow demands that three-band designs simply cannot accommodate, particularly when precision matters in dense arrangements.
The proportional Q architecture deserves particular attention. Rather than maintaining a fixed Q across the gain range, this design tightens the bandwidth as you increase boost or cut, which yields more musical results in professional mixing contexts. This behavior prevents the excessive energy spread that can muddy mixes when aggressively EQing in traditional designs.

The frequency selection spans 75 Hz through 12.5 kHz across its four bands with deliberate overlap in the midrange, enabling surgical shaping of tone-critical sources like vocals, guitars, pianos, and strings. Band gain adjusts in 1 dB increments, stepping to 1.5 dB near maximum throw for practical control. The absence of visual displays forces engagement with your ears rather than screen graphics, accelerating decision-making during sessions.
IK Multimedia's interface adaptation splits the original hardware's dual concentric knobs into discrete controls, improving ergonomics without sacrificing analog workflow. This design philosophy positions the EQ PB as an essential tool for engineers working in hybrid setups who value straightforward, tonally transparent equalization grounded in proven analog methodology.
