About this plugin
Heritage Audio's HA-81A EQ represents a meticulous digital emulation of the Neve 1081 mastering equalizer, one of the most respected and sonically transparent EQs in professional audio history. This plugin captures the circuit behavior of the original hardware with notable precision, delivering the same gentle, musically cohesive coloration that made the 1081 an industry standard for mastering and critical mixing work across decades.
The HA-81A provides four parametric bands with shelving options on the low and high frequencies, operating at 96kHz internally to preserve sonic integrity. What distinguishes this EQ from broader-spectrum tools is its restraint - the curves are forgiving rather than surgical, making it exceptionally difficult to damage a mix even with aggressive settings. The midrange bands exhibit the subtle harmonic character typical of Neve designs, adding dimensionality without obvious processing artifacts. This quality proves invaluable when transparency is paramount, whether during mastering or final mix polish.

Engineers gravitating toward this plugin typically prioritize sonic preservation over dramatic reshaping. It excels at corrective work where surgical precision matters less than maintaining mix cohesion, and its gentle nature suits classical, jazz, and acoustic material particularly well. While less aggressive than modern linear-phase alternatives, the HA-81A's musical bias makes it preferable for contexts where character enhances rather than detracts. The plugin occupies a specific niche - not a surgical corrective tool, but a trustworthy tonality refiner that respects the source material while providing genuine improvement.
