About this plugin
Heavyocity's AVANT approaches the electric piano from an unconventional angle, treating the instrument as a source material rather than a fixed sound. Built from meticulously sampled components of a Fender Mark II, the library captures both traditional tine vibrations and prepared piano techniques using hammers, e-bows, twine, and picks. This yields 4,026 samples organized across 16 distinct sound sources, each revealing different resonant characteristics of the original instrument.
The architecture revolves around the ASCEND engine, which permits simultaneous layering and processing of three sound sources through a three-point mixer. This design choice prioritizes real-time manipulation over preset rigidity. The ECHOS feature introduces controlled randomization that adds textural variation without sacrificing musical coherence, useful for creating evolving pad textures or unpredictable rhythmic elements.

What distinguishes AVANT from conventional electric piano plugins is its emphasis on extended techniques and processed variants. The extended techniques category - including bowed, twine-scraped, and drilled articulations - expands well beyond traditional attack and sustain behaviors. Processed sources like Dusty Tape and Breathing Ambient Keys lean into lo-fi and ambient territory, suggesting scoring applications rather than straight jazz or funk recreation.
AVANT serves producers and composers working in hybrid orchestration, modern soundtrack production, or experimental electronic music. The 109 presets provide starting points, though experienced users will find the real value in building custom textures through source layering and the included arpeggiator. It represents a meaningful departure from straightforward electric piano emulation, positioned for those seeking textural complexity over tonal authenticity.
