GRIP

GRIP is a synthesis and sampling hybrid designed specifically for vehicle tire and chassis sound design in post-production. Rather than laboriously assembling recordings through sample editing, GRIP generates dynamic tire interactions, suspension impacts, and chassis vibrations in real time, controlled through a straightforward parameter set. The plugin processes over 650MB of source recordings through morphing algorithms, allowing users to sculpt rolling noise, skids, bumps, and friction characteristics across five vehicle types.

The technical approach centers on real-time automation and dynamic perspective control. Users adjust speed, grip level, and chassis intensity while switching between interior and exterior perspectives, adjusting angle and distance as needed. A dedicated skid section controls slip amount, pitch, and blending between traction states. The onboard mixer provides independent faders for rolling, skid, detail, and suspension elements, enabling precise mix management within a single plugin rather than across multiple tracks.

GRIP addresses a genuine production bottleneck: vehicle sound design typically consumes disproportionate time relative to engine sound work. By eliminating sample searching, crossfading, and pitch correction, it accelerates workflow significantly. The suspension trigger function adds impact precision without manual editing.

The plugin occupies a specialized niche within motion picture sound design. It's most valuable for editors and sound designers working on automotive sequences where authentic dynamic response matters more than highly stylized or fantastical tones.
