About this plugin
GForce Software's M-Tron Pro IV stands as the most comprehensive digital recreation of the Mellotron M400, the tape-based keyboard that fundamentally shaped progressive rock, psychedelia, and contemporary alternative music. Rather than modeling the instrument in isolation, this plugin captures the complete sonic ecosystem of tape-based playback: the characteristic wow and flutter, the mechanical tape transport artifacts, and the organic saturation that defined recordings by The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Radiohead.
The plugin's architecture centers on a 3.5GB library containing over 200 original tape banks, providing genuine source material rather than synthesized approximations. The redesigned interface prioritizes workflow efficiency with a scalable UI, overhauled preset browser, and essential editing functions like undo/redo and copy/paste that were absent in earlier iterations. The extended keyboard range descends seven semitones lower than the original hardware, expanding harmonic possibilities for modern productions.

Sonically, M-Tron Pro IV distinguishes itself through new tape wow and flutter modeling, integrated amp simulation, and an alternative state-variable filter that allows subtle tonal shaping without abandoning the source character. The addition of ensemble effects and matrix reverb provides spatial processing within the plugin itself, reducing reliance on external effects chains.
This tool is essential for producers working in progressive rock, indie rock, lo-fi, and contemporary hip-hop where vintage keyboard textures carry stylistic weight. While competitors exist in this niche, M-Tron Pro IV's combination of authentic tape libraries, transparent modeling, and thoughtful modern features makes it the reference standard for Mellotron emulation in professional contexts.
