About this plugin
FabFilter One is a single-oscillator subtractive synthesizer that distills the essential architecture of classic analog design into a focused, immediately musical instrument. Rather than pursuing feature bloat, FabFilter has engineered a plugin where every component serves clear sonic purpose.
The oscillator delivers sawtooth, triangle, and square waveforms with pulse width modulation, all generated from a carefully designed algorithm that eliminates aliasing artifacts at any sample rate. What distinguishes One is its filter section - a self-oscillating design that achieves genuine warmth and character typically associated with vintage hardware. The cutoff exhibits the smooth, organic sweep of analog circuitry without the brittle or sterile quality that plagues many digital filters. Even at full resonance, the filter maintains musicality rather than degenerating into mathematical harshness.

The modulation design pairs a tempo-syncable LFO with continuously morphable waveforms and a conventional ADSR envelope augmented by a Hold parameter. Both modulation sources track at sample accuracy, with intelligent parameter interpolation preventing zipper noise and digital artifacts during real-time control changes.
One excels for producers seeking focused sound design without menu diving - optimal for synth bass, leads, and pad work across electronic music, IDM, and post-rock contexts. The portamento algorithm deserves particular mention, employing sophisticated pitch tracking that adds expressive character to legato lines. Parameter automation integrates seamlessly with DAW environments via MIDI Learn.
Among single-oscillator plugins, FabFilter One occupies premium territory through meticulous tuning and filtering approach rather than specification count. It remains a standard-bearer for synthesis design that prioritizes sonic coherence over feature density.
