About this plugin
Sheen Machine applies Eventide's proprietary Structural Split technology to solve a persistent mixing problem: adding high-frequency presence without introducing sibilance or transient harshness. The plugin separates tonal and transient components of an audio signal, allowing independent processing of each layer. This distinction proves crucial when brightening vocals or instruments where traditional high-shelf EQ creates unwanted artifacts or aggression.
The interface reduces SplitEQ's complexity to a single control, making the technology accessible without sacrificing efficacy. By targeting only the tonal information in the high frequencies, Sheen Machine adds perceived air and clarity to sources that would sound harsh or fatiguing under conventional equalization. The approach works particularly well on lead vocals, where presence is essential but sibilance control remains challenging, and on duller recordings where a simple boost would amplify both desirable shimmer and problematic edge.

The technical execution distinguishes it from traditional shelving EQ and surgical multiband tools. Rather than analyzing frequency bands in isolation, Structural Split analyzes the signal's transient behavior across the spectrum, creating a more musical and transparent boost that doesn't feel like processing.
Sheen Machine fills a specific niche between gentle linear phase EQ and elaborate multiband systems. For engineers working with dense mixes or problematic source material, it addresses a real workflow problem with minimal interface complexity. While not essential for all mixing scenarios, its targeted approach makes it a logical addition to any professional plugin suite, particularly for mix finishing and vocal enhancement work.
