About this plugin
DrumX represents EastWest's most directly producer-focused drum plugin to date, built around groove programming rather than sound design alone. The plugin combines ten classic drum machines - the TR-808, TR-909, TR-606, LinnDrum, LM-1, DR-55, DR-110, DMX, DrumTraks, and SP-12 - with a curated groove library programmed by Jimmy Jam. The machines themselves are meticulously modeled, capturing the sonic character and workflow of their hardware counterparts, though the real distinction lies in the groove-first architecture.
The interface centers on a 16-pad sequencer with per-pad controls and dedicated sound-shaping parameters for each machine type. The tape saturation control adds harmonic color across the kit, while the Pad Inspector provides machine-specific synthesis and sample manipulation tools. A professional effects chain rounds out the processing pipeline, allowing for compression, EQ, and spatial effects without bouncing to audio.

DrumX suits producers working in R&B, hip-hop, and pop contexts where groove pocket matters as much as sound selection. The exclusive groove library - drawn from Jimmy Jam's catalog of 42 Billboard number-one records - establishes a strong starting point for iteration rather than programming from scratch. For producers comfortable building on existing patterns, this approach accelerates workflow considerably. The modeled machines themselves are competent recreations, though not significantly differentiated from competing plugins in pure sonic quality. The real value proposition centers on that curated groove foundation and the collaborative vision between a seasoned hitmaker and experienced plugin developers.
