About this plugin
DrumNet represents a departure from traditional drum machine design by combining generative AI with hands-on sound design. Rather than offering preset kits, the plugin uses deep learning to synthesize drum samples across 13 instrument categories, then applies what Session Loops calls "Deep Resampling" technology to create variations from both generated and imported samples. This approach yields genuinely novel sonic possibilities without requiring machine learning expertise from the user.
The technical execution centers on three core functions: infinite sample generation, parameter refinement, and sequencing. Users can adjust pitch, envelope characteristics, and filter behavior to shape synthetic drums toward specific tonal goals. The 32-step sequencer handles velocity automation, note repeat, and swing quantization - essential tools for rhythmic nuance that distinguish it from basic loop players.

The plugin functions most effectively for producers working in contemporary electronic genres. Hip-hop, house, and R&B producers benefit from the factory presets tuned to these styles, while experimental musicians gain utility from the customization depth. Engineers seeking to quickly prototype drum sounds or establish sonic coherence across a project will find the workflow efficient. The ability to transform personal sample collections into variations addresses a real workflow gap, particularly for artists who've invested in curated drum libraries.
Among AI-driven music tools, DrumNet occupies practical middle ground - more accessible than raw machine learning but more generative than standard sample browsers. Its strength lies in enabling non-destructive exploration rather than automating composition. For producers comfortable with sound design fundamentals, it functions as a legitimate creative tool rather than a novelty feature.
