About this plugin
Dr. Fill stands as a practical solution to a genuine production problem: generating musically coherent drum transitions without interrupting creative momentum. The plugin generates fills algorithmically, offering producers a starting point that typically requires less editing than building from scratch. Its core strength lies in pattern generation guided by adjustable parameters rather than sample playback, allowing fills to adapt across different tempos and song structures.
The toolkit centers on three primary controls - Density, Swing, and Humanize - that shape rhythmic character without requiring deep technical knowledge. Pattern Lock, the standout feature, freezes a rhythmic skeleton while allowing tonal variations, effectively decoupling rhythm from timbre. This matters practically: you can audition different sounds against a locked groove rather than regenerating patterns entirely.

The Kit Builder addresses a real workflow friction point. Rather than scrolling through preset kits, producers load their own samples, and Dr. Fill's automatic detection handles both sample classification and key recognition for pitched material. This approach respects the reality that most sessions employ custom drum sounds rather than factory libraries.
Basic Wavez positions Dr. Fill as a hybrid tool - somewhere between pure inspiration (random generation) and precise control (MIDI export and input). The plugin works best for producers who already understand their sonic direction but need rhythmic scaffolding, or those seeking structured variation on existing ideas. It's less useful for sound design work or situations demanding complete creative control over every hit.
